Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of 2025 Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Fernando Mendoza, is making his first college start tonight as Georgia Tech’s quarterback against Colorado. That’s what’s driving the social media conversation right now. cbssports.comAlberto (a redshirt sophomore from Miami) spent two seasons at Indiana backing up his older brother. He appeared mostly in blowouts during Indiana’s perfect 2025 season and national championship run, completing 18 of 24 passes for 286 yards and 5 TDs. After the title game he entered the transfer portal and committed to Georgia Tech to get a starting opportunity. apnews.comTonight’s primetime game is his first real chance to step out of Fernando’s shadow. Fans on X are live-reacting with lines like “Alberto Mendoza what do you have for us?”, “legacy drive on deck?”, and “making mom and dad proud.” SportsCenter posted a highlight clip of him under that exact caption. People are treating it like the next chapter of the Mendoza family football story. @SportsCenterFernando himself became a social-media personality last year for very different reasons: he barely uses typical platforms (mainly LinkedIn and YouTube), gives unusually earnest, TED-Talk-style postgame interviews, and has an earnest, slightly corporate “process-driven leader” persona that fans both love and meme. Alberto’s debut is being watched partly through that lenscan the little brother deliver his own version of the family moment? theguardian.comThe name “Mendoza” also has an older, unrelated meme life from The Simpsons (Lisa screaming “Mendozaaa!”), but the current spike is the live college football game and the brothers’ story.
