Kimi Antonelli, the 20-year-old Italian Mercedes Formula 1 driver, delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the 2026 season at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Starting from 19th on the grid after a penalty, he charged through the field in spectacular fashion, overtaking rivals as if they belonged in a different category. Late in the race he even recovered from a gravel excursion while battling his teammate George Russell, then passed him to take the win.The victory marked his seventh of the season and extended his championship lead to 66 points. It was also the first time an Italian driver had won at Monza since 1966. The home crowd, traditionally devoted to Ferrari, ended up cheering the young Mercedes star as he draped himself in the Italian flag. The combination of national pride, youthful talent, and an almost unbelievable comeback turned the result into the dominant talking point across social media today.
