The hashtag rose today around a wedding-gold scandal that spread quickly on Turkish social media.In Elazığ, a man preparing for his wedding discovered messages on his fiancée’s phone the day before the ceremony. The messages indicated she planned to replace the real gold jewelry he had already paid for with cheaper fakes because of gambling debts. He immediately called off the wedding.The gold had been purchased months earlier from a local jeweler. When the groom went back to the shop and explained what had happened, the jeweler publicly remarked that it was better to cut losses early than to proceed. Videos of the jeweler’s comments and the story itself circulated widely and were tagged with the phrase, turning it into the day’s visible jewelry-related trend.The same tag was also attached to many unrelated posts, which is common when a hashtag starts moving. The core story that gave it traction, however, remains the canceled wedding and the planned substitution of genuine gold with imitations.
