Swachhata Se Swagat is a cleanliness-focused welcome campaign that has become a recurring practice ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to different states. Instead of relying mainly on traditional decorations and banners, local administrations and party units organise large-scale community cleanliness drives, waste collection, blackspot removal, tree plantation and beautification of public spaces, roads, markets, ghats, temples and other high-visibility areas.The approach grew out of the national Swachh Bharat Mission and treats a high-profile visit as an occasion to demonstrate and reinforce civic cleanliness rather than as a purely ceremonial event. It first gained wide notice in West Bengal in June 2026, when a multi-day drive was launched in Kolkata and surrounding areas before the Prime Minister’s visit for International Yoga Day. Similar efforts later appeared in other states.On 8 September 2026 the hashtag is trending because Gujarat is using the same formula to welcome the Prime Minister to Vadodara and Navsari, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects. District administrations there have already conducted extensive cleaning of villages, roads, public buildings and water bodies, collected large quantities of solid waste and carried out plantation work. Officials and supporters are posting images and updates of these activities under the hashtag to highlight the cleanliness welcome.
