Jonathan Calleri, the Argentine striker who has spent a decade with São Paulo after earlier years at Boca Juniors, returned to play at La Bombonera this week in the first leg of a Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal. It marked his first appearance there in eleven years, this time as an opponent and captain of the visiting side rather than a home player. The occasion carried extra weight because of a famous moment from his youth at Boca, when he scored a memorable goal that even drew a reaction from Diego Maradona in the stands. Ahead of the match he described the night as special, noting that his family would be present and that he remains happy at São Paulo.During the game the home supporters whistled him, which he later called expected treatment for any opposing player. Afterward Brazilian and Argentine social media filled with debate over his performance, his history with both clubs, and the emotional contrast of the homecoming. Some posts praised his loyalty and past contributions; others focused on missed chances or questioned his current form. The discussion mixed nostalgia, rivalry banter, and typical post-match analysis of a high-profile continental fixture.
