In the Fox News article, comedian Adam Carolla shared details on Sean Hannity’s podcast (“Hang Out with Sean Hannity”) about how Jimmy Kimmel helped launch his comedy career and why he believes society is in danger when comedians stop speaking the truth.Key points from the report:

1. How Kimmel Kickstarted His Career: Carolla explained that their friendship began unexpectedly when he was working as a boxing trainer. He was locked outside the KROQ radio station around 6 a.m., where Kimmel was working at the time as “Jimmy the Sports Guy.” After someone let Kimmel know a trainer was waiting, Kimmel let him in. During their sessions, Carolla ended up discussing comedy much more than boxing. Kimmel became the first person in Carolla’s life to tell him: “You are funny, man. You should be doing this,” encouraging him to pursue a full-time career in comedy and entertainment.
2. Warning on Comics and Society: Carolla warned that comedians play a vital cultural role as truth-tellers, speaking truth to power without fear of censorship. He expressed concern that during the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of cancel culture, external pressures began influencing comedians.
3. Danger to the Free Exchange of Ideas: He argued that while it is expected for politicians, school teachers, or union workers to censor themselves to protect their jobs, comedians are supposed to remain fearless. According to Carolla, when external forces successfully pressure comedians into silence or conformity, it serves as a critical warning sign that society is in serious trouble.
