Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Austin, Texas, has announced that it will be going inactive for the 2027 Drum Corps International (DCI) competitive season.According to a statement released by the organization’s Board of Directors:

• Reason for Inactivity: The decision was driven by rising operational expenses across the non-profit performing arts sector and the increasing financial burden of member tuition. The organization stated that its existing revenue model made it unsustainable to deliver the level of instruction, resources, and support that performers deserve without compromising standards.
• Goals During the Hiatus: Genesis plans to use the 2027 season to conduct a comprehensive organizational review. This will focus on restructuring its financial framework, refining operational strategies, and establishing long-term sustainability to support future return to the field.
• Recent Performance: During the 2026 DCI season, Genesis finished in 23rd place at the World Championship Semifinals with a score of 76.675 performing their production titled “AbstRacT.”

By stepping back for 2027, Genesis joins several other drum corps that have opted for temporary hiatuses in recent years to stabilize finances rather than risking the overall health and future of the organization.
