The City of Denver is alerting emergency dispatchers, first responders, and the public about an upcoming September 11 memorial flyover featuring a United Airlines commercial airliner escorted by military fighter jets. What the Flyover Involves
- Aircraft: A United Airlines Boeing 777 flying in formation with four F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Colorado Air National Guard (120th Fighter Squadron based out of Buckley Space Force Base).
- Timing and Path: The commercial jet is scheduled to depart Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, September 11, and perform a flyover at 9:03 a.m. over United’s Flight Training Center (near Quebec Street and 35th Avenue), before the planes return to base around 9:30 a.m. The 9:03 a.m. timing coincides with the moment United Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center 25 years ago.
- Purpose: The flight is part of a private memorial event for United employees to honor the victims and crew members lost aboard United Flight 175 and Flight 93. During the private ceremony, United is unveiling a 9-foot-11-inch monument constructed from World Trade Center structural steel.
