The crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium overwhelmingly wanted Coco Gauff to win their US Open semifinal, but Elena Rybakina spoiled the home-crowd favorite’s run by securing a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory to reach her first final at Flushing Meadows. After Gauff claimed a tight opening set, Rybakina fought back into the match with heavy returning and a composed comeback. In a tense conclusion, Gauff briefly rallied in the third set to give the New York crowd hope, but Rybakina held her nerve and broke back before serving out the match to seal the win. Acknowledging the partisan atmosphere after her victory, Rybakina remarked in her post-match interview, “I know you guys wanted Coco to win.”
