Sudan’s military leader and Sovereignty Council chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, stated that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) will be completely excluded from any future role in the state and national dialogue. Speaking in Khartoum, Burhan also expressed doubt that the UN Security Council would pass a U.S.-backed resolution to expand the existing Darfur arms embargo into a nationwide ban. Meanwhile, conflict and security pressures continue to intensify, particularly with fighting near the Blue Nile region and mounting humanitarian concerns raised by the UN, alongside a newly signed agreement between Sudan and a Saudi firm to revamp the Khartoum refinery.
