A 66-year-old man named Trevor Dunkley has pleaded guilty to the 1998 murder of Patricia Lashley, a mother of seven who disappeared 28 years ago from Dudley, West Midlands.Appearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Dunkley also admitted to a charge of preventing her lawful burial. According to his defense barrister, the charges were brought following a police interview in which Dunkley confessed. He told police that after killing her, the victim’s body decomposed in a cellar for about nine months to a year before he disposed of the skeleton in bins.Because of the 28-year lapse in time and the nature of the disposal, the victim’s body has never been found, and the case initially proceeded without physical evidence of the crime until his confession. Several members of the victim’s family attended the court hearing. Dunkley has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced to life imprisonment on November 6, where a judge will determine the minimum term he must serve before being considered for parole.
