Togo has recently been active in several key areas. President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé announced at the World Nuclear Symposium in London that Togo has endorsed the global declaration to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050, becoming the 39th nation to join the initiative, and announced that Lomé will host the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa in June 2027. Domestically, the Council of Ministers adopted a decree creating the National Agency for the Regulation of Medicines and Other Health Products to strengthen pharmaceutical inspections and market surveillance, and the government launched a pre-qualification process for a major solar photovoltaic power plant in Agoè-Nyivé. On the international diplomatic front, Togo also recently spearheaded a successful UN General Assembly resolution promoting equal-area map projections to correct historical size distortions of Africa and other equatorial regions.
