Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s political organization promoted a “special announcement” scheduled for Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2026, around 4:00 p.m. (following the Chicago Bears’ season opener against the Carolina Panthers) [cite: 1.2.3].While the invitation cryptically told supporters to “be part of history” without explicitly stating the agenda, political analysts and preview interviews strongly pointed toward the expected official launch of Johnson’s re-election campaign for the 2027 mayoral race. In preceding comments, Johnson noted he would address the future of his administration and the city, highlighting progress on affordable housing, growing economic indicators, and multi-year lows in violent crime, while entering a crowded and competitive field of potential mayoral challengers.
