According to the Fox News report, the “one thing” President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop doing is targeting Russian diesel refineries.Key details from the report include:
- The Request: Speaking to reporters while attending the Irish Open at his golf resort in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump stated that he spoke directly with Zelenskyy and urged him to halt strikes specifically directed at Russian diesel infrastructure. Trump remarked: “Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia.”
- Alternative Targets: Trump noted that while Ukraine has plenty of other legitimate military targets inside Russia to focus on, attacking diesel facilities is aggravating an international shortage. Trump added: “Don’t hit diesel fuel because that’s hurting the world.”
- Market Impact: The article highlights that Ukrainian long-range drone and missile strikes have heavily strained Russia’s fuel supplies, prompting local fuel rationing and export bans. Combined with global supply constraints, these disruptions contributed to record-high fuel costs, with average U.S. diesel prices climbing above $6 per gallon.
