In this incident, retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Guptaa veteran of the 1999 Kargil War’s air campaign, “Operation Safed Sagar”was brutally assaulted during a parking dispute at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram.Key details of the incident:
- The Incident: Around 8:00 PM on a Thursday night, the retired officer dropped his family off at a restaurant inside Magnum Global Park and went to find parking. After being redirected multiple times between valet and parking areas, he was informed there was no parking available. When he attempted to reverse his vehicle, an attendant allegedly struck the car’s windshield.
- The Attack: When Captain Gupta stepped out of the vehicle to protest, the parking attendant attacked him unprovoked with an iron rod, hitting him on the hand and head. The assailant reportedly yelled death threats, saying “I will kill you.” The veteran suffered serious head trauma and an elbow fracture that required surgery involving plates to stabilize the bone.
- Lack of Immediate Help: Gupta stated that none of the nearby security guards or parking staff stepped in to assist him; he was eventually helped by a chef from the restaurant. He also alleged that emergency police assistance took nearly 30 minutes to arrive.
- Police Complaint and Hospital Allegations: Following the assault, Captain Gupta filed a police complaint seeking an FIR for attempt to murder and grievous hurt. He also raised concerns that the initial medico-legal case (MLC) report from the hospital failed to accurately document the extent of his injuries, including the head bleeding and fractured elbow, and requested an official rectification.
