According to the article from the Daily Star, Prime Minister Andy Burnham cancelled all official engagements for September 14 and 15 following the death of his father, Roy Burnham, who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The announcement came from Downing Street just a day after Burnham took part in the Great North Run for charity. Burnham had previously spoken about his father’s condition and mentioned how it sadly prevented his father from knowing that his son had become Prime Minister, an experience that has strongly influenced his focus on reforming the social care system. As a result of the bereavement, scheduled events, including a meeting with business leaders at No 10, were cancelled.
