Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas announced an effort to force a full, House-wide vote on impeaching President Donald Trump.Key details of the report include:
- Procedural Mechanism: Representative Green intends to bring the articles of impeachment forward as a privileged resolution. Under House rules, a privileged resolution allows a member to bypass committee review and regular House leadership scheduling, compelling floor consideration within two legislative days.
- Core Allegations: The resolution charges the president with high crimes and misdemeanors, focusing on alleged abuses of presidential authority and executive branch conduct.
- Political Context & Outcome: Green has previously introduced privileged impeachment resolutions on multiple occasions. These attempts generally face bipartisan resistance or procedural pushback, where House leadership typically calls a motion to table the resolution or refer it to committee, effectively shelving the measure without a direct vote on the merits of impeachment.
