According to the report, Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has agreed to report cases involving child sexual abuse and related child safety matters directly to appropriate law enforcement agencies in India.This decision comes amid an intensifying crackdown by the Indian government and child rights regulators on social media platforms that fail to ensure children’s online safety. The scrutiny escalated following investigations into allegations that platform systems and advertisements were being exploited in connection with child sexual abuse material, prompting inquiries from authorities such as the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding mandatory reporting obligations under Indian law. In response, Meta agreed to proactively forward such abuse cases to enforcement authorities.
