Firefighters in Montana’s Pioneer Mountains continue containment and suppression repair work following recent weather changes:
  • Sand Creek Fire: Located about 7.5 miles southeast of Wisdom, it is measured at 35,520 acres and is 58% contained. Fire crews are focusing on lingering heat along control lines on Steel Fox Road, engaging directly along the fire perimeter where safe and feasible.
  • Bobcat Lakes Fire: Burning 12 miles east of Wisdom and 13 miles southwest of Wise River, it covers 10,896 acres and is 72% contained. Strong winds quickly dried out the light rain and snow received earlier in the week. Crews are actively engaged on uncontained sections, patrolling private lands in Jerked Prairie, and performing repair work such as grading roads, removing excess fuel, and restoring control lines.
  • Skull Fire: Located 8 miles southeast of Wisdom and 1 mile east of Odell Lake, it is reported at 68 acres with 0% containment, and remains under patrol and monitoring.
Closures: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains active over the area. The Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, along with surrounding National Forest System lands, roads, and trails, remains closed to the public.
