More than two years after an Atlanta man was found dead in Alabama during a Fourth of July trip, police have arrested his boyfriend in Miami for his murder.

Thirty-three-year-old Julian Taylor Morris was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and charged with the murder of his then-boyfriend, 31-year-old Deundray Cottrell, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Cottrell was reported missing on July 4, 2024, while visiting his family in Birmingham, Alabama. Investigators found surveillance video of him walking in the area and clothes believed to belong to him. On July 6, 2024, officers discovered Cottrell’s body inside a shed about a block away from his family’s home. His death was ruled a homicide and investigators concluded he had been strangled.

Days after the discovery, authorities identified Morris as a person of interest, noting he was the last person to see or hear from Cottrell and had stopped cooperating with detectives. After two years on the run, Morris was arrested in Miami and is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center while awaiting extradition back to Alabama.
