This news coverage centers on the tragic crash of NBC4 Los Angeles’ news helicopter, NewsChopper4, which went down in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The helicopter was covering a fatal collision involving an SUV and a city bus when it crashed between commercial buildings and caught fire. The accident claimed the lives of two longtime newsroom colleagues aboard the aircraftphotojournalist/aerial reporter Eliana Moreno and veteran pilot and flight instructor George Marciniwalong with a third individual on the ground.

The reporting highlights the emotional toll on the newsroom as anchors and field reporters covered the tragedy in real time. Colleagues, including longtime anchors such as Colleen Williams and morning anchor Lynette Romero, struggled through live broadcasts, wiping away tears and comforting one another as they confirmed the loss of their team members in the sky. Field reporters reporting near the wreckage described the scene while visibly overcome with grief, and the station aired tributes celebrating Moreno and Marciniw’s dedicated years of service to Southern California aerial journalism.
