As part of the major $300 million renovation and seating upgrade project at Lenovo Center in Raleigh (formerly PNC Arena), thousands of original lower-bowl seats were removed to make way for brand-new seating and reconfigured aisles.

Regarding what happened to the removed seats:

  • Fan keepsakes and memorabilia: Rather than simply sending all of the old seats to a landfill, venue operators and the Carolina Hurricanes made batches of the historic seats available to season ticket holders, fans, and collectors as pieces of team and arena history.

  • Donation and recycling: Usable fixtures, brackets, and seating parts not sold or claimed by fans are typically liquidated to regional venues, community sports facilities, or recycled for scrap metal and plastics.

The renovations at Lenovo Center are overhauling the lower bowl, expanding overall seating capacity for both hockey and NC State basketball, and modernizing concourses and sound systems ahead of the upcoming seasons.
