(#DeepakChaurasiaModiTalk) What is the story behind this trend in Social Media today?
17-09-2026
The hashtag refers to the long-running professional interactions between veteran journalist Deepak Chaurasia and Narendra Modi. Chaurasia first interviewed Modi in 2002, when Modi was Gujarat’s chief minister and not yet widely discussed as a possible national leader. In that conversation and in subsequent interviews in 2008 and 2012, Chaurasia repeatedly asked when Modi would leave Gujarat for Delhi and become prime minister. Modi consistently deflected the question, at one point saying his entire world was Maninagar and that he had never even considered himself a contender for the chief minister’s post. Those early exchanges, together with later interviews after Modi became prime minister in 2014 and 2019, have been compiled and recirculated as a set of five historical conversations. On Modi’s birthday each year the clips and recollections reappear, and people use the hashtag to revisit how an interviewer spotted the possibility of a national role years before it materialised. The discussion therefore mixes nostalgia for those past interviews with commentary on current government programmes such as the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and related policy reforms. Some posts also mix the hashtag with unrelated political or personal criticism of the journalist, but the central thread remains the documented series of conversations that began more than two decades earlier.
