An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, identified as Christian Castro, was booked into the Hennepin County Jail in Minnesota on state felony assault charges.
IndiatimesThe charges stem from a January 2026 incident during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, where Castro shot and wounded Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national, through the door of an apartment.
IndiatimesProsecutors charged Castro with multiple counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon as well as falsely reporting a crime. According to authorities, Castro had originally told Homeland Security investigators that he was assaulted with a broom and snow shovel, but video footage later contradicted that claim.
YouTube+ 1Following the incident, Castro returned to Texas, which delayed local arrest efforts and led to an extradition standoff between state officials. He was recently indicted on separate federal charges for making false statements, released on bond in Texas, and subsequently turned himself in to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to face the state assault charges in Minneapolis.
