La Abejita, a family-run business in Jerome, Idaho, has officially opened its doors at a permanent brick-and-mortar location after operating on and off for over a decade.
Key details from the report:
Origins in 2009: Co-owners and sisters Clarisa and Stephany Sandoval shared that the business originated around 2009 when their parents helped them start an after-school Mexican snack cart to teach them responsibility. After school, their parents would prep everything, and the sisters would run the cart from about 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
How it got its name: Their parents initially wanted to call it “Clari and Fanny Snacks” and even had business cards made, but the sisters strongly disliked the name. When their parents purchased a yellow food trailer, they chose the name “La Abejita” (The Little Bee) instead.
Road to a permanent shop: Over the years, the project paused and evolvedthey assisted with their father’s restaurant, operated out of a shed, and hosted pop-up events. Eventually, the opportunity arose to establish a permanent storefront in Jerome.
Community response: The opening has been met with positive local support, with several longtime customers visiting who remembered the business from its early trailer days.
