Classes at the Bickersteth Primary and Infant School in St. James have been suspended for the rest of the week following an overnight break-in at the institution.
According to school officials, including board chairman Renardo Douglas:
Thieves broke into the school and ransacked both the principal’s and the guidance counselor’s offices.
Approximately 15 laptops were stolen from the premises.
Food items were also taken from the school’s tuck shop.
Parents, guardians, staff, and students were notified that the school would remain closed while authorities investigate and assess the situation.
The school administration has appealed to the local community to share any relevant information that could assist the police in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
This break-in comes amid broader concerns raised by the Ministry of Education regarding multiple burglaries targeting schools across western Jamaica.
