Here are the details regarding the news report:

On the evening of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, a news helicopter providing aerial coverage for NBC4 (KNBC) and Telemundo 52 crashed in a commercial area of Chatsworth, a neighborhood located in the northwestern San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.

The helicopter was covering breaking news involving a fatal collision between an SUV and a Metro bus when it went down between two commercial buildings just before 7:00 p.m.

Three fatalities were confirmed at the scene:

  • George Marciniw, a veteran helicopter pilot.

  • Eliana Moreno, an aerial photojournalist and reporter who operated the camera and broadcasted live from the helicopter (NewsChopper 4).

  • Edy Gutierrez Mejia, a pedestrian who was on the ground in a nearby parking lot when the crash occurred.

At least two other individuals were injured and transported to local hospitals.

The impact and resulting fire caused severe destruction to the aircraft and damaged several parked vehicles and storage containers in the area. Over 70 firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze.

Both Marciniw and Moreno were long-time media professionals employed through Angel City Air, which operates news choppers across the region. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
