The report from Action News 5 (WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee) warns Mid-South residents about an unseasonable late-summer heat wave arriving at the end of the week and extending through the weekend.
High pressure building across the region brings mostly sunny, dry conditions and pushes daily high temperatures into the mid-to-upper 90s, approaching or exceeding 100 degrees in heat index values. These temperatures are projected to flirt with or break daily high temperature records for the Memphis area heading into the weekend. Meteorologists issued a First Alert to advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, check on vulnerable neighbors and pets, and take standard precautions against heat-related illness.
