West Virginia University athletic director Wren Baker confirmed during an appearance on the “3 Guys Before The Game” podcast that he was bitten by a venomous copperhead snake inside his home.

The key details of the incident:

• What happened: Baker went down to his basement to complete a routine chorechanging the filter on his HVAC system. A basement door had previously been blown open by strong winds, allowing the snake to sneak inside unnoticed. While changing the filter, Baker suddenly felt an intense pain from the bite.

• Immediate reaction: Baker called for his wife, who urged him to rush immediately to the emergency room. Baker, however, refused to leave the house with the snake loose. He grabbed a shovel, killed the copperhead, and cut it into four pieces, at which point they discovered the snake was pregnant.

• Condition: After dealing with the snake, Baker went to the hospital for medical treatment. He has since fully recovered and reported no lasting health complications from the bite.
