This report from the Manchester Evening News covers Manchester United Under-21s’ Premier League 2 fixture against Brentford at Leigh Sports Village, with the buildup heavily overshadowed by the absence and imminent exit of 15-year-old academy talent JJ Gabriel.

Key details reported include:

• Transfer Request: JJ Gabriel was left out of the squad after officially requesting to leave Manchester United. His representatives believe his development and future lie away from Old Trafford.

• Barcelona & Real Madrid Interest: Gabriel travelled to Barcelona to hold talks with the Catalan club regarding a potential move. Real Madrid has also been actively pushing to sign him.

• Missed Senior Debut: Manchester United had originally planned to name Gabriel in the senior matchday squad for the Carabao Cup third-round tie against Brighton. Had he featured, he would have become the youngest player in the club’s history.

• Lead-up to the Exit: Just days before the request, Gabriel scored a hat-trick against Sabah’s youth side at Leigh Sports Village. However, within an hour of that match, he wiped all references to Manchester United from his social media profiles, signaling the standoff before formally submitting his request to depart.
