The report covers community efforts across the Augusta and Aiken areas in recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week and Child Passenger Safety Month.
Local health organizations and public safety agenciesincluding Safe Kids and regional health partnersare organizing free car seat check-up events to help parents and caregivers properly secure children in vehicles. During these events, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) inspect existing car seats, verify correct installation, ensure seats match the child’s height and weight specifications, and instruct parents on proper harness fit and latching techniques.
The primary goal of these initiatives is to reduce child injury and fatality rates, as statistics show that a significant majority of car seats are improperly installed or misused despite being proven to reduce crash-related injury risks by over 70%.
