Two men were arrested after parachuting off a construction site on the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Pittsburgh and landing directly in front of a security guard.
According to Pittsburgh police, a security guard was parked in a lot on South Neville Street around 9:30 p.m. on a Thursday when he heard a parachute deploying overhead. He then witnessed two men land right in front of him in the parking lot. Authorities believe the daredevils BASE jumped either from a construction crane or from the university’s new Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences, which is currently under construction across the street.
Officers stopped the two suspects, identified as Bader Abulaban and Jason Stanicar, in a pickup truck as they attempted to drive away from the parking lot. When questioned, both claimed they were simply in the area visiting a friend.
Both men were taken into custody and face felony charges of criminal trespass and conspiracy. Court records also noted that Abulaban had previously faced trespassing citations in 2022 after BASE jumping off a wind turbine in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
