The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced criminal charges against 16 individuals across multiple states in connection with alleged illegal voting, voter registration violations, and other election-related crimes, including cases involving noncitizens accused of casting ballots in federal elections.

According to the DOJ, the charges span states including Texas, Idaho, Georgia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Michigan. The allegations involve noncitizens voting in federal elections, false claims of U.S. citizenship to register or vote, and false statements related to naturalization applications. Authorities also uncovered related offenses during the investigations, such as passport and identification fraud, wire fraud, and firearm-related violations.

This enforcement action is part of a broader Trump administration effort targeting alleged illegal voting and election crimes. Justice Department officials stated that the administration has charged a total of 50 noncitizens with illegal voting. Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin reported that a wider investigation is ongoing, noting that officials are looking into more than 300,000 suspected cases, with over 1,600 open cases and 151 arrests made so far. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
