The OutKick report by Armando Salguero details a quarterback crisis for the Atlanta Falcons following a turnover-heavy loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Key details highlighted in the article include:
Top QBs Sidelined by Injuries: Both Michael Penix Jr. (working his way back from knee surgery) and Tua Tagovailoa (sidelined with an oblique strain sustained in practice) were inactive for the second straight week.
Cooper Rush’s Turnover Struggles: With the top two quarterbacks out, third-stringer Cooper Rush earned his second start of the season. His outing was marred by mistakes: an opening-drive fumble returned for short field position that Carolina converted into a touchdown, followed by two interceptions. Rush completed 10 of 17 passes before head coach Kevin Stefanski benched him late in the third quarter.
Fourth-String Meltdown: Replacement quarterback Jack Strand entered the game and threw a 16-yard pick-six on his very first pass attempt.
Looking Ahead: After consecutive turnover-plagued outings, Stefanski addressed the team’s inability to overcome such giveaways. The article notes Atlanta is left hoping either Penix or Tagovailoa will be healthy enough to return ahead of their next game against the Green Bay Packers.
