Key Highlights from the Story:Massive Turnaround from Week 1: After a frustrating Broncos debut in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefswhere he was held to just one catch for two yardshead coach Sean Payton made Waddle the centerpiece of Denver’s passing attack against Jacksonville.
The Stat Line: Waddle caught 8 passes on 10 targets for 138 yards, marking his highest single-game receiving total since November 2024 and earning him the game ball from Sean Payton.
Game-Changing Plays:
A 49-yard connection in the first half when quarterback Bo Nix escaped the pocket, scrambled right, and fired across the field to Waddle running a deep post down to Jacksonville’s 1-yard line.
A clutch fourth-quarter conversion on third-and-short, where offensive coordinator Davis Bowen dialed up a double move that freed Waddle down the right sideline to seal the victory and burn down the clock.
Payton’s Reaction (“Glad he’s ours”): Following the game, Sean Payton praised Waddle’s playmaking and immediate value: “You can see the explosiveness, the run after the catch, all of those things. So, glad he’s ours.” Payton and teammates also lauded Waddle’s infectious energy and positive mindset in the locker room.
Validating the Trade: The performance provided quick validation for Denver’s blockbuster offseason trade with the Miami Dolphins, in which the Broncos surrendered a 2026 first-round pick and additional assets to acquire Waddle as their primary offensive weapon alongside Bo Nix.
