(#RecountDUSUResults) What is the story behind this trend in Social Media today?
21-09-2026
The hashtag emerged after the Delhi University Students’ Union elections held on 18 September 2026, with results declared the next day. ABVP won three of the four central posts: president, secretary and joint secretary. An independent candidate who had previously been linked to NSUI won the vice-president post by a large margin. NSUI won none of the four seats. Two contests were unusually tight and produced several lead changes during the 20 rounds of counting. In the presidential race the NSUI candidate led at multiple points, including by a single vote after certain rounds, before ABVP pulled ahead by just over 2,000 votes. In the joint-secretary race a Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha-backed candidate led through the middle rounds; ABVP then overtook him in the later stages and won by fewer than 850 votes. That candidate publicly alleged a sudden, unexplained swing in the final rounds, particularly the last round that involved a small number of machines, and called the outcome manipulation. He demanded a re-poll or recount of the disputed rounds and said he would file a police complaint. Supporters of NSUI and other opposition groups also raised questions about the counting process. Small protests occurred at the counting venue. The hashtag and similar slogans therefore reflect dissatisfaction among losing camps and some students over the narrow margins, the late reversals in the count, and a desire for a verified recount to settle doubts about the two closest races. University authorities have not announced any official recount.
