According to the Fox News report, a Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy in Washington state rescued a man from a burning vehicle following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash on the night of September 21, 2026.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when the deputy noticed a driver traveling about 20 mph over the speed limit on State Highway 104 in Kingston, Washington. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and accelerated, reaching speeds of up to 111 mph.

The deputy temporarily lost sight of the vehicle until spotting tire tracks leading off the road and billowing smoke. The driver had lost control, plowed through a yard, and slammed into a tractor, causing the SUV to burst into flames.

Body camera footage captured the rescue effort:

• The deputy ran to the burning SUV and smashed the driver’s side window with his flashlight.

• The trapped driver yelled that he could not get out from that side.

• The deputy moved to the passenger side, repeatedly striking the door handle with his flashlight to force entry as engine flames intensified.

• An officer from the Port Gamble Police Department arrived shortly after with a fire extinguisher to suppress the fire.

• The deputy and assisting officer then pulled the injured driver from the mangled wreckage.

North Kitsap Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and airlifted the driver to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities did not publicly release the man’s identity, but noted he faces charges of attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving.
