A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest at a homeless encampment in Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood.

Seattle police and fire crews responded to the 9200 block of 42nd Avenue South after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers administered emergency medical aid at the scene until Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition and is expected to survive.

According to police, the shooter fired from or fled in a vehicle immediately after the incident. The suspect remains at large, and detectives with the Seattle Police Department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit are investigating the events leading up to the shooting.
