Alexandra “Alex” Eala suffered an early exit at the WTA Singapore Tennis Open after falling in the Round of 16 to Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova in a hard-fought three-set match lasting nearly three hours.
Eala, ranked world No. 18, had strong support from a vocal crowd of Filipino fans at the OCBC Arena. She took the opening set 6-4 after battling through seven set points. However, Prozorova, ranked 165th, rallied from behind in the second set to win 7-5 and carried that momentum through the decider, claiming the final set 6-3 to seal the upset.
Following the defeat, the 21-year-old Filipino star expressed disappointment but kept things in perspective, acknowledging that long, grueling battles sometimes don’t go your way. Despite wishing she could have advanced further in Southeast Asia, she noted how special it was to experience the support of the local crowd and her family.
Following her Singapore run, Eala shifts her focus to representing the Philippines at the Asian Games.
