The hashtag is trending because Madhya Pradesh formally launched its Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva today. After the old state road transport corporation was wound down around 2005, government-supervised public bus services had been absent for 21 years. The new scheme, run on a public-private partnership model, aims to restore organised, affordable and modern bus connectivity between cities and rural areas.Today’s state-level event in Bhopal marked the start with the flagging-off of 351 inter-city and intra-city buses from seven cities: Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Dewas, Katni and Bhind. The first-year target is 1,500 buses, rising to 15,000 by 2031, with the longer-term goal of linking about 75 percent of the state’s gram panchayats. Buses are equipped with GPS tracking, CCTV, panic buttons and digital ticketing, and operations will be monitored from command centres. The launch is being presented as a major step toward safer, more convenient and environmentally friendlier public transport across the state.
