The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) initiated a major safety and resurfacing project along the Gallatin Pike and Main Street corridor.
Key details of this initiative include:
Scope and Area: The work covers the busy corridor stretching from South 5th Street to Briley Parkway through East Nashville and Inglewood.
Safety Purpose: Gallatin Pike is classified on Nashville’s Vision Zero High-Injury Network as one of the city’s most dangerous corridors for motorists, transit riders, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Key Enhancements:
Roadway resurfacing and repaving.
A modified lane and striping design.
Enhanced pedestrian crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and curb bulb-outs to shorten crossing distances.
Upgraded pedestrian and school zone signage and traffic markings.
Better access management and intersection safety measures to curb speeding and reduce collision rates.
Longer-Term Vision: This phase acts as an immediate Vision Zero improvement while Nashville continues longer-term planning under the voter-approved transportation initiatives, which envision dedicated transit corridors and improved multi-modal connections along Gallatin Pike.
