Case Overview: The Murder of Jill Maiorca
The Disappearance and Murder: Detectives believe 29-year-old Jill Maiorca was killed in November 2006. She was officially reported missing from Big Bear Lake, California, the following year in 2007.
Discovery in the Crawlspace (2020): On October 28, 2020, a homeowner reported a suspicious discovery beneath a residence on Forest Road in Big Bear Lake. Deputies and firefighters searched the crawlspace and discovered human remains that had been concealed there without the property owner’s knowledge.
Identification via Cold Case Team: An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, but initial forensic tests were unable to identify the victim. In 2023, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Cold Case Homicide Team sent the remains for advanced DNA analysis, which eventually confirmed the identity of Jill Maiorca.
The Arrest: Following the identification and subsequent investigation, authorities named her former husband, 53-year-old Jeff Anthony Maiorca, as the suspect. He was taken into custody and charged with her murder nearly two decades after her disappearance and several years after her remains were unearthed.
