25-09-2026
Tropical Storm Gonzalo formed in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean off the western coast of Africa, becoming the seventh named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
Key details regarding the storm’s status, track, and expected impacts:
Location & Movement: As of September 25, 2026, Gonzalo is moving north-northwest toward and through parts of the Cabo Verde Islands, traveling at roughly 8 to 10 mph.
Intensity & Warnings: Gonzalo carries maximum sustained winds near 45 to 50 mph, placing Tropical Storm Warnings into effect across the Cabo Verde Islands.
Forecast & Path: The storm is forecast to track past or across the Cabo Verde island chain before moving into the open eastern Atlantic. From there, steering currents are projected to weaken, causing the storm to slow down, run into drier air and increasing wind shear, and gradually degenerate into a remnant low over open water by the weekend into early next week.
Impacts: Heavy rainfall of 1 to 3 inches, gusty tropical-storm-force winds, and rough, dangerous surf and rip currents are impacting Cabo Verde, with heavier rain bands extending toward parts of the adjacent West African coast.
U.S. Threat: The storm remains confined to the far eastern Atlantic and poses no threat to the United States or the Caribbean.
