According to prosecutors, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. as both drivers entered the ramp for Illinois Route 30 in Montgomery. Madrigal pulled alongside Contreras’s vehicle and opened fire with a revolver, firing multiple rounds before fleeing the scene. Four bullets hit the car and three struck Contreras, resulting in his death. Contreras’s 6-year-old child and an adult friend were also inside the vehicle at the time but were not physically injured.
