Based on the article from Football365, here are the key details of the news:
The Context: Reports broke that Manchester City was found guilty of 114 of their 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges concerning alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018. While Man City intends to appeal once punishments are decided, potential penalties discussed include heavy fines, points deductions, expulsion, or the potential stripping of league titles.
David de Gea’s Reaction: Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to the news, writing: “So…… Let’s talk. How many Premier League titles have I won then?”
The Impact on De Gea: De Gea won only one Premier League trophy during his spell at Old Trafford (in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season, 2012/13). However, Manchester United finished as runners-up behind Manchester City in three different seasons during his tenure: 2011/12 (on goal difference), 2017/18, and 2020/21. If titles were stripped and reallocated, his tally would theoretically jump from one to four.
Rival Clubs’ Potential Lawsuits: The piece also highlights subsequent reporting from David Ornstein indicating that several Premier League rivals are preparing potential legal action/claims for damages against Manchester City over missed European qualification and commercial bonuses following the verdict.
