On Thursday, September 24, 2026, a police pursuit unfolded across Northwest Miami-Dade after a suspect escaped custody and led officers on an erratic, 20-minute chase.

According to police and South Florida Police Benevolent Association officials, the incident began when 35-year-old Jordan Brown was taken to Palmetto General Hospital under Florida’s Baker Act. Brown managed to escape the facility wearing hospital scrubs, confronted an elderly woman in her car in the hospital area, threw her to the ground, and stole her vehicle.

During the ensuing pursuit, Brown drove down side streets, drove in circles, ran at least one red light, struck several vehicles, and evaded three PIT maneuvers. A local witness, Lulu Johnson, stated she was attempting to park near Northwest 15th Avenue and 68th Terrace when the fleeing vehicle nearly collided with her car.

Officers finally brought the chase to an end using a PIT maneuver near Northwest 17th Avenue and 79th Street, taking Brown into custody.

Brown faces at least nine charges, including carjacking and robbery, burglary with assault or battery, battery on a person 65 years or older, fleeing and eluding police, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer found probable cause and ordered Brown held without bond pending a pre-trial detention hearing.
