On September 24–25, 2026, an armed standoff in Harlem, Montana, resulted in two deaths and minor injuries to two law enforcement officers.

Deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to execute arrest warrants on a male suspect who barricaded himself inside a residence. Due to indications that the suspect was armed, authorities requested assistance from the Central Montana High Risk Unit (CMHRU)a tactical team composed of Great Falls Police Department officers and Cascade County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Throughout the night, law enforcement personnel from local, state, and federal agencies attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender. At approximately 5:30 a.m. on September 25, the armed suspect confronted officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting. The male suspect was killed during the confrontation. Two CMHRU tactical officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at the scene.

Following the standoff, officers discovered a deceased female inside the residence. Investigators determined that her death was a suspected homicide unrelated to the tactical confrontation with officers. The Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) took over the primary investigation into both deaths and the officer-involved shooting.
