A fast-moving wildfire known as the Second Street Fire has broken out near Benton City in Benton County, Washington, burning over 1,000 acres of grass, brush, and urban forested areas with no containment reported.
Because the blaze is actively threatening homes, infrastructure, and nearby areas, local officials have issued mandatory Level 3 (“Go Now”) evacuation orders for affected residents. The evacuation zones include subdivisions accessed via North Valley Drive Way and Pear Drive (encompassing Apple Drive, Cherry Drive, Berry Drive, and Plum Drive), as well as the Kiona Village Community Mobile Home Park and additional areas near State Route 224, Keene Road, and Kennedy Road.
Emergency responders and state fire mobilization officials have deployed resources, including wildland strike teams, to tackle the threat. Temporary evacuation centers have been established at Ki-Be High School in Benton City and Central Church in Richland to assist displaced residents.
