(#AFLGF) What is the story behind this trend in Social Media today?
26-09-2026
#AFLGF is the standard hashtag used for the Australian Football League Grand Final. Today it is trending because Saturday 26 September 2026 is Grand Final day itself. The match is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between Fremantle and Brisbane. Fremantle are chasing the first premiership in the club’s history after more than three decades in the competition. Brisbane are attempting a rare three-peat after winning the previous two Grand Finals. The day includes the usual large-scale build-up: a public-holiday parade the day before, pre-game entertainment headlined by Kylie Minogue, and nationwide television coverage of the league’s showpiece event. That combination of historic stakes for both clubs plus the annual spectacle of Grand Final Saturday is what has driven the hashtag across social media.
