An American couple died following a building explosion and subsequent collapse in Athens, Greece. The incident occurred in the historic Plaka district near major tourist sites including the Acropolis. Officials and the mayor of Athens indicated that a gas leak was likely the cause of the powerful blast, which reduced the two-story structure to rubble and damaged surrounding properties. Emergency responders and rescue teams searched the site where individuals, including the tourists staying in a short-term rental property, were reported missing or trapped.
